How to Remove A Ball Joint Without A Press?

A fully damaged ball joint can swivel and vandalize the handling at low-pace and it's not safe at high speed. Even, while making a turn you will hear a sound. Step 1: Preparations

To remove a ball joint you will need some tools. Let's arrange them first to perform the work. All you need is a jack with a jack stands, wire, pry bar, metal cleaner, tool chests, hammed, pickle fork and gasket. If you are ready now with all the required tools then get yourself prepared.

Step 2: Safety 

Remember, It's always important to put on your safety gear first before performing any hard metal adjusting task. Use gloves and glasses to keep your hands and eyes safe.

Park your vehicle on a flat surface and make sure you blocked both the front and back wheels. 

Use a jack lift to the front wheel and place the jack stands to support the vehicles. Confirm that nothing will move when you start working. Now you are ready to start your work on the ball joint.

Step 3: check the ball joints

Check the ball joint and see if you have a strut-style suspension or a control arm. Jack up the car and use a pry-bar to assess wheel play in a strut style suspension. In the case of a control arm, you can also assess the wheel play and check the ball joint by using jack stands.

You may have to detach the brakes. To separate it, use a wire to hang the brakes tightly by the brake lines. Lose the frames to adjust space when the sway bar and control arm demands. 

Step 5: Pull the Cotter Pin and Loosen the Castellated Nut

Removing castellated nut is not needed to remove. You can just loosen it and adjust it as you want. Don't forget to keep it in a safe position.   

Step 6: Pop the Ball Joint Out

Use a special tool known as pickle fork or tie rod separator to unfit the very tight hole in the upper half of the steering knuckles. 

Remove the biggest nut from the joint by using the wrench. Now attach a new nut and locate the pickle fork between the steering knuckle and the control arm. 

Step 7: Detach the Allen Bolts and Slide Free the Control Arm

To hold the ball joint in position and slide the ball joint out. you need to loosen the Allen bolts. There are some parts you need to heat with a torch to slack them.
